MOTS-c

CAS #: 1627580-64-6

MOTS-c is a 16-amino acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded by the MT-RNR1 gene, naturally produced in response to exercise and cellular stress. It activates the AMPK pathway to enhance glucose uptake, fat oxidation, and energy efficiency. Considered an exercise mimetic with applications in metabolic health, anti-aging, and longevity research. Available as lyophilized powder with ≥98% purity.

Product Overview

MOTS-c (mitochondrial ORF of the 12S rRNA type-C) is a naturally occurring peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA with the amino acid sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR. It mediates mitochondrial-nuclear communication by translocating to the cell nucleus under exercise or stress conditions. Levels decline naturally with age, correlating with increased susceptibility to metabolic and age-related conditions. Upregulated by exercise, it is classified as an exercise mimetic.

Mechanism of Action

MOTS-c activates the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway, a key regulator of cellular metabolism and homeostasis. This stimulates glucose uptake and fat oxidation, primarily in skeletal muscle. It translocates to the cell nucleus to mediate mitochondrial-nuclear communication, coordinating multiple mitochondrial functions and maintaining cellular homeostasis.

Key Benefits

Metabolic Optimization — Improves insulin sensitivity and glucose regulation. Supports fat loss and metabolic efficiency through AMPK-mediated fat oxidation and glucose uptake.

Exercise Mimetic — Replicates key metabolic benefits of exercise at the cellular level. Enhances muscle function, endurance, and physical performance. Promotes muscle differentiation and protects against muscle wasting.

Anti-Aging & Longevity — Protective effects against age-related decline in metabolism, bone density, and cellular function. Supports osteoblast proliferation and mineralization while inhibiting osteoclast production.

Cognitive Support — Associated with improved memory and cognitive function, including enhanced object/location recognition and memory consolidation.

Cellular Repair — Reduces inflammation and oxidative stress, supports mitochondrial function in skin cells, and may enhance healing outcomes after aesthetic procedures.
