Melanotan 2 (MT-2)

CAS #: 121062-08-6

Melanotan II is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that acts as a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist. It stimulates melanogenesis for UV-free tanning through MC1R activation, enhances libido and erectile function through MC4R activation, and supports appetite suppression and immune modulation. Available as lyophilized powder with ≥99% purity.

Product Overview

Melanotan II was developed as a successor to afamelanotide (Melanotan I). It stimulates melanogenesis by activating MC1 receptors on skin cells, producing a darker, more even tan with significantly reduced UV exposure. Its activation of MC4 receptors in the brain drives sexual arousal effects and appetite suppression. The peptide acts on MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5 receptors with varying potency.

Mechanism of Action

Melanotan II acts as a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist. MC1R activation stimulates melanocyte pigment production (tanning). MC4R activation in the hypothalamus influences sexual arousal (via dopamine pathways) and appetite regulation. MC3R may contribute to metabolic and sexual effects.

Key Benefits

Tanning with Reduced UV Exposure — Stimulates melanin production for a darker, more even tan while minimizing UV exposure. Beneficial for fair-skinned individuals and those with photosensitivity disorders.

Enhanced Libido & Sexual Function — MC4R activation boosts libido in both men and women and improves erectile function through central melanocortin system stimulation.

Appetite Suppression — MC4R activity suppresses appetite and improves satiety, supporting weight management in conjunction with lifestyle modifications.

Immune Modulation — Modulates inflammatory pathways and cytokine production, with emerging evidence of neuroprotective benefits through BDNF enhancement.
